    Description

AUSTIN COUNTY, TEXAS and Southwest Texas History - Goodspeed Publication - 98 pages - soft cover - full name index - reprinted 2016.
Austin County was a part of the 1821 Stephen F. Austin grant in Texas Territory and in 1829 the area became recognized as part of the Old Mexican Muncipality to become a county in the Republic of Texas named for Stephen Fuller Austin, one of the founders of the state.  In this volume you will find a short history of southwest Texas as the area was known in the 1890s when this publication came into print.  Also included are the brief biographical sketches of those in the county of note that returned their information to the Goodspeed publications for printing in the book.  Each section of this volume has it’s own separate index for convince.

    Example from this volume:
“JAMES A. STONE - For many years he has followed farming and stock-raising, and is one of the leaders in those occupations in his section.  He was born in Washington County, Texas, November 28, 1860, and is the son of Samuel and Bettie V. (Stone) Stone.”
