PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUMN OF WILL COUNTY, ILLINOIS
CHAPMAN BROTHERS, CHICAGO, 1890, brown leather embossed cover with gold toned elabore title design on front and another ornate design to title on spine.  This large volume has an embossed leather cover but it has tears on the spine and the cover corners. The text is complete and in very good condition. The book is 8 1/2 x 11 x 2 1/2" with 771 numbered pages and an appendix and index. This is a book of biography - the biographies each have a full page portrait. The biographies start with George Washington - continue thru all the presidents-Benjamin Harrison is President-then the Ill governors and finally the citizens starting with the early pioneers. The writer's style is very interesting - there is a lot of personal commentary - unpleasant events are mentioned but generally glossed over. There is a full page portrait with every biography. AND SOME OF THE ARTICLES ALSO HAVE A FULL PAGE PORTRAIT OF THE WIFE AND A BIOGRAPHY. There are only a very few women who merit this inclusion but all of the wives are included in the articles... "...acquired and excellent mental training and development, together with the high principles which should animate womanhood." See our scans There is an embossed gold design end paper on the front and back covers and fly. The page ends are gilt. Wonderful history and even a little good gossip.
We are an art and framing gallery in Downtown St. Cloud with a 30 year history. We have always had a small antique division which specializes in paper collectibles. We carry a wide selection of postcards, old magazines, antique botanicals, old maps and prints, sheet music and books. Our shop is open 9:30 -5:00 weekdays and 9:30 - 3:00 Saturday year around. We only close for Sunday and the major holidays.
